The Target pharmacy in Hollister is one of many locations throughout the Bay Area that is participating in the “Shoo the Flu” effort through Dec. 31.
Target is providing free flu shots for children ages 4 to 18. Families can call the pharmacy at (831) 638-4824 to make sure the vaccinations are available, and a staff member of the pharmacy is there to administer the vaccine.
The initiative was started by Larry and Lucy Page, who made a commitment to improving the health of the Bay Area community by setting up the initiative. They are working with Target pharmacies to get children ages vaccinated in December before the peak flu season begins in January or February. The idea is that vaccinating children will also help stop the spread among adults.
The San Benito County Public Health Department staff has encouraged residents to get flu vaccinations from their doctors or local pharmacies as the agency could not hold a mass vaccination clinic this fall.
For those who are unable to get a flu vaccine, the health department will host a free flu vaccine clinic on Jan. 8, from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Veterans Memorial Building, with a limited supply available. The vaccinations will be available to individuals six months of age and older.
