Supervisors elect Botelho as chairman, ratify committee roles

Supervisor Anthony Botelho will serve as chair of the board for 2013.

At the first meeting of the year Tuesday, San Benito County supervisors elected Anthony Botelho to serve as chairman of the board for 2013 with Jerry Muenzer elected to serve as vice chairman.

“I want to invite Jaime De La Cruz to the podium to present a plaque and gavel to the former chair,” Botelho said, as his first order of business as chair. “Supervisor De La Cruz has been a friend of mine and we’ve gotten to know each other through work together on the board. We were sworn in yesterday for another four years.”

As De La Cruz accepted the plaque, he referred to 2012 as “an exciting time. Though he acknowledged there had been some “ruffled feathers,” he said he thought the county came out for the better.

“I’m looking forward to 2013,” Botelho said. “I’m optimistic this board will work well on a number of challenges, mainly the budget.”

Botelho announced the list of committees on which he and his fellow board members will serve in 2013. He said he kept many of the committee appointments the same, as he believed continuity would be best.
