School board names Perales new San Benito superintendent

John Perales, the San Benito High School District superintendent, said the recent infractions the baseball team was hit with could be used as a learning experience moving forward.

The San Benito High School District will soon see a major change in leadership.
On March 6, the San Benito High School District Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint John A. Perales as their new superintendent.
Before deciding to head south to Hollister, Perales made his career in the Gilroy Unified School District. He has served in the following capacities: high school teacher at Gilroy High School and Mt. Madonna Continuation High School, South Valley Middle School Principal, Mt. Madonna Continuation High School Principal, Founding Principal of Christopher High School and most recently as the director of human resources – certificated personnel.
Perales said he is thankful and appreciative for all of the support and opportunities Gilroy Unified has given him throughout his career.
“I attended Gilroy schools (K-12) and have made my career in Gilroy – Gilroy Unified will always have a very special place in my heart,” he said in a media release.
Perales thanked Superintendent Dr. Deborah Flores and the GUSD Board of Education for their support throughout the process.
Perales said he’s excited for this new chapter in his career and life, and he looks forward to working with the San Benito High School District Board of Education, students and staff. He is equally looking forward to meeting and working with parents and the Hollister community to make San Benito High School and the Hollister community the very best place to learn and live.
Perales will begin his duties as superintendent on April 1, 2014. He will replace Bill Barr.
