Crews make quick work of fire at end of Nash Road

A firefighter walks through smoke at the fire Friday.

Crews made quick work of a debris fire behind a home and shed at Nash and Riverside roads Friday morning.
A cause was unclear as firefighters maintained control of the blaze reported shortly before 10 a.m. Fire crews responded to the home and had most of the the flames out within minutes, while they stayed on scene to control any smouldering.
Fire Chief Mike O’Connor was there directing crews and said it was reported as a wild land fire. When firefighters arrived, they found a large area of debris on fire, but nothing burning in the shed or house. Occupants were home at the time and called in the report of a fire, O’Connor said.
“One of their daughters noticed the column of smoke,” the chief said. “We’re still trying to determine if they were burning out here or it was accidental.”
