Residents can comment on ‘Complete Streets’ draft through month

San Benito High School students cross Nash Road in 2012.

Residents have until the end of the month to submit comments on a draft Complete Streets Plan for several stretches near Nash Road put together by a consultant after taking locals’ feedback.
The city and consultants last year held workshops to discuss changes to areas near Nash Road, Tres Pinos Road, Sunnyslope Road and McCray Street in order to make them more pedestrian-friendly. Out of those talks, the consultant developed a future plan for those areas – a document city officials hope could increase the potential for grant funding.
To move ahead toward completing the plan – which includes two roundabouts on McCray Street and two more on Tres Pinos Road – the city is taking further comment from residents on the draft through August, said city planning official Mary Paxton.
City leaders like Paxton saw a need to increase walkability in Hollister, and particularly those areas.
“The whole point of a complete street is to – it’s reflecting a change in the philosophy about transportation, that it’s not just for cars,” Paxton said.
Review the draft:
The city has paper copies available at City Hall, 375 Fifth St., the Development Services Department, 339 Fifth St., and the San Benito County Library, 470 Fifth St., according to planning official Mary Paxton, who is overseeing the process. Find the draft online at hollister.ca.gov.
