Health officials to ask for tobacco ban in pharmacies

City Hall

San Benito County Public Health Department officials are set to ask Hollister council members Monday to ban tobacco sales in local pharmacies, a move that would make it the first city in the Central Coast region to do so.
Council members are set to meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St. Dr. Anju Goel, the county’s public health officer, will join other health professionals from across the region to speak about the issue at Monday’s meeting.
The request comes days after health officials and the mayor honored the local Nob Hill for banning sales of tobacco starting this month.
