Animal control to give away spay, neuter coupons

First time volunteer Lyndsey Ellis, 11, gets a greeting from Freely, a 3-year-old cat, while at Pet Friends in Hollister Nov. 15.

The Hollister Animal Shelter is offering coupons to coincide with Spay Day.
The Hollister Police Animal Care and Services in conjunction with the Pet’s In Need, a nonprofit rescue organization based out of Redwood City, will be participating in the Annual World Spay Day.
Spay Day is a worldwide campaign to help stamp out the country’s severe pet overpopulation problem. When you consider that two unaltered cats and their offspring can produce 420,000 cats, and two unaltered dogs and their offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in just six years, there is simply no reason not to spay or neuter. These staggering numbers cost cities and counties thousands of dollars each year, and more than five million animals are euthanized in the United States alone.
To help inspire each American to take personal responsibility for preventing unwanted puppies and kittens, the Hollister Animal Care and Services, has teamed up with the Pet’s In Need to offer spay and neuter certificates valued at $75.
Certificates are limited so don’t hesitate. To obtain your spay/neuter coupon please stop by the Animal Care and Services located at 1331 South St. in Hollister the week of Feb. 17 between the hours of noon to 5 p.m. or for more information contact the Hollister Police Animal Care and Services Department at (831) 636-4320.
