Gavilan Roundup: March 27

Gavilan Rams

Cabrillo’s Zane Gelphman hit a grand slam in the eighth inning, but Gavilan wasn’t intimidated.
The Rams got six runs on six hits in the bottom of the ninth to squeak out an 11-10 win over the Seahawks Thursday at home.
Sean Allen was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and quickly stole second. He was the first Ram to cross home plate, scoring off a Rex Lagman double on the next play. Tyler Slayday to singled, putting runners on the corners for Gavilan. Brennan Wilson was hit by a pitch on the next play to load the bases.
Kevin Burley singled, driving home Lagman and keeping the bags full for the Rams. Bryant Cid singled, scoring Austin Garcia—who was pinch running for Slayday—and cut Cabrillo’s lead to 10-8. Back-to-back singles from Matt Petersen and John Forestieri allowed Wilson, Cid and Connor Stark—pinch running for Burley—to come home and clinch the ‘W’ for Gavilan.
Gavilan drew first blood when Erik Barron singled and scored Cid in the bottom of the first. Cabrillo scored the equalizer in top of the third, but Gavilan took a 4-1 lead with runs scored in the bottom of the third and fourth innings.
Slayday singled to score Allen in the bottom of the fourth and Peterson scored in the next inning thanks to a single from Barron. Peterson scored again in the bottom of the seventh off another single from Barron.
Barron led the Rams with three RBIs of three hits. He also had a stolen base against Cabrillo.
Peterson went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Cid was 3 for 6 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Forestieri also had two RBIs and went 2 for 5 at the plate with a walk. Burley was 2 for 2 with an RBI.
Connor DiNiro got the ‘W’ on the bump. He was perfect through one-third innings.
