San Benito County senior citizens have a chance to get $20 vouchers that will let them buy fresh vegetables, fruit, herbs and honey.
The vouchers awarded by the Seniors Council will be given to low-income individuals who are at least 60 years old and make less than $1,800 per month in one-person households or $2,426 per month in two-person homes.
Vouchers are limited to one per person each year and the qualified senior must be present at the farmers’ market to sign for it. The council will be awarding the vouchers from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 17 at one of the many booths in the Hollister Certified Farmers’ Market held at San Benito Street in downtown Hollister.
The Seniors Council received additional vouchers this year, so seniors who are unable to wait in line, or make it at the start of the market, can pick them up until 6 p.m.
The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is a federally funded program that provides low-income seniors with check booklets that can be used to purchase fresh foods at certified farmers’ markets.
