Earthbound plans San Juan expansion over ‘several years’

Earthbound Farm grows and packages a line of organic salads and produce at their main facility in San Juan Bautista.

San Juan Bautista-based Earthbound Farm is planning a phased expansion over “several years,” according to county planning documents.
County supervisors Tuesday gave approval to a master conditional use permit on further expansion of the processing facility for the largest organic producer in the U.S.
The approval Tuesday dealt with a formality in the permit and addressed reimbursements for any costs incurred by the county on environmental and planning work. It also authorized the assistant planning director to OK minor contract amendments during the expansion at Earthbound, 1721 San Juan Highway.
Although the county agenda included few details on the expansion, it noted the project will be a four-phase buildout over “several years.”
Earthbound Farm is a subsidiary of Denver-based WhiteWave Foods, a publicly traded company with a market cap of $8.81 billion.
