County values exceed $7b for the first time

KB Home has been building near R.O. Hardin School along Line Street.

San Benito County’s total assessed property value exceeded $7 billion for the first time as of Jan. 1 of 2015, according to the assessor’s report released last week and approved by supervisors Tuesday.
The net assessment roll increased by 6.6 percent over the prior year with a $416 million valuation increase, largely due to rising property values and an “upswing” in construction, according to Assessor Tom Slavich’s office.
As the housing industry has gradually recovered, the Hollister area has been experiencing a building boom of sorts over the past year and is expected to continue growing for several years to come.
Look back for more.
