Two vying for county board seat with deadline extended

This sign was in front of the old courthouse in June 2014.

Two residents have filed for candidacy to succeed District 1 Supervisor Margie Barrios, who is not seeking a third, four-year term. With Barrios declining to run as the incumbent, the normal Friday filing deadline is extended until Wednesday.
Mark Medina and Mark Starritt filed papers to run for the seat before the 5 p.m. Friday deadline for most seats.
Starritt is listed as a flight instructor/contractor, and Medina is listed as a businessman.
While the District 1 seat will see competition, nobody had filed to compete against District 2 Supervisor Anthony Botelho in his push for a fourth term or District 5 Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz in his attempt for a fourth term.
