Hollister Councilman Gomez announces no reelection bid

After eight years on the Hollister City Council, Victor Gomez has announced he will not seek reelection for a third term.
Gomez made the announcement on his personal Facebook page Monday morning and then followed up in an interview with the Free Lance.
He said he wants to spend more time with his family. He also has plans to focus his professional efforts on his full-time position in San Jose, where he is director of public policy at the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, along with consulting work.
He has been considering whether to seek reelection “for months,” he said. His direction became clear in recent weeks when he had the chance to spend more time with family.
He said he realized, “You know what—I need to spend more time with my family.”
The District 4 councilman, who is vice mayor, said eight years is enough time in the council role and that it’s time for a “fresh face, a new voice.” He would face reelection on the November ballot.
Gomez is finishing his second, four-year term on the council. He also narrowly lost a bid for District 4 supervisor in 2014 to Jerry Muenzer.
Look back for more.
