Local students pen patriotic essay

Hollister VFW Post 9242 is proud to announce the winners of the 2017 Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest. Out of 56 entries, Ramon Covarrubias, a 7th grader at Cienega School, wrote the winning essay, “America’s Gift to My Generation.” Covarrubias will receive a check for $200. His essay was forwarded to the 12th District, which covers an area from South San Francisco to King City, for the next level of competition. Alexzander Svenningsen, a fellow student at Cienega School along with runners up Dylan Yearton, Colby Honeycutt and Michael DelCarlo from Spring Grove School, Danielle Gomez from Southside School and Cole Wyrick from Tres Pinos School will each receive a $25 check. Certificates of Merit will be awarded to all essay writers.
