The Creative Work Fund will host an informational seminar at Blak Sage Gallery, Jan. 24, from 6:30 -7:30 p.m., on its grant application process. Letters of inquiry will be due March 1, with up to $650,000 available with grants ranging from $10,000 to $40,000.

1.) Movies Under the Stars - Kung Fu Panda 2: The Hollister Downtown Association and the Youth Alliance are sponsoring “Movies Under the Stars,” for one week in July. The featured movie will be “Kung Fu Panda 2,” and it will air July 19, at the grassy lot on the corner of Fourth and San Benito streets. Admission is free and the movie starts a half hour after dusk. All minors should be accompanied by an adult. Brenda Weatherly, the president of the HDA, said the nonprofit had struggled to find enough sponsors to have the outdoor movies run for four Thursdays in July, but that they would offer at least one outdoor movie this summer. Sponsors of the program include the San Benito Health Foundation, Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital, Recology, Charles River and the HDA.

Choir sings ‘Bon Voyage’ before trip to Olympics: The Monterey Peninsula Choral Society will present a “Bon Voyage” concert, Spirit & Song: An Olympic Journey, at St. Benedict Church, 1200 Fairview Road, Hollister, July 13 at 8 p.m. Admission is free although a donation of $20 would be appreciated. Even those in theater circles might not be as familiar with the San Benito Stage Company's selection for a summer musical, opening tonight at the Granada Theatre. But show producer Anne Hall said the show has some great musical numbers and a storyline that will draw viewers in. The show “Big River – The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” follows Tom Sawyer's pal as he heads down the Mississippi River.
