Veterans groups, city consider lease for building deal

Two years after the Hollister City Council approved a deal transferring management of the Veterans Memorial Building to local veterans groups, city officials and those organizations’ members are talking about renewing an expired contract.

Family to celebrate life of former SJB police chief

Friends and family will be gathering at 11 a.m. Saturday in the veterans section of the San Juan Bautista Cemetery to celebrate the life of former San Juan Bautista Police Chief Lonny Greywolf Hurlbut, who died Jan. 30 in Nebraska at age 77.

Local VFW seeks help for upcoming events

The VFW Post 9242 is requesting volunteers to help with a Memorial Day event on May 27 and with the upcoming Hollister Motorcycle Rally, from July 3-7. On Memorial Day, volunteers and members of the public will gather in San Juan Bautista at the Leslie L. Garrett Post 6359 at 8:30 a.m. and proceeding to Hollister. During the biker rally, the VFW members will partner with the American Legion Post 69 to work at the Veterans Memorial Building in exchange for a percentage of the proceeds from the rally. They will also be selling food in the annex as a fundraiser. Home built in Hollister will go to injured veteran

Local residents are invited to a groundbreaking ceremony for a unique homebuilding project in Hollister on Saturday at 10 a.m., at 254 Rosebud Avenue, near Santa Ana Road.

ART 105 show open through April: San Benito High School students will have artwork on display at the Blak Sage Gallery through April 21, at 727 San Benito St. The gallery is open Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m., and April 14 and 21, from noon to 5 p.m. An artists’ reception will be held April 13, from 3 to 6 p.m., with music and light refreshments.
