San Juan Bautista resident
San Juan Bautista resident Liborio Ortiz died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninusla from complications after a lengthy illness. He was 64.

Mr. Ortiz was born in Michoacan, Mexico. He had lived in San Juan Bautista for about 15 years and worked on the Herbert Ranch.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Ortiz of San Juan Bautista; his children, Erica Avila, Ana Ortiz and Veronica Ortiz, all of San Juan Bautista, Leonardo Ortiz and Jorge Ortiz, both of Hollister, and Elvia Gamboa of Porterville; his brothers and sisters, Joel Ortiz of Hollister, Amelia Jimenez, Adelina Jimenez and Adelmira Madrigal, all of San Francisco, Samuel Ortiz and Andrea Madrigal, both of Umatila, Ore., and Leonila Ortiz of Mexico; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Friends may pay their respects Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will begin Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, proceeding to Mission San Juan Bautista for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Interment and graveside services will follow at San Juan District Cemetery.
