If you’re looking for a tasty cup or tea, or perhaps a nice raffle prize, you might want to check out the third annual White Elephant Champagne and Tea.

The Women’s Club and the Friends of the Library are partnering again for the event 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday at San Juan Oaks Golf Club.

It is a fundraiser for the two groups to support a scholarship program for the Women’s Club and to support the SBC Free Library. It also coincides with National Women’s Month, said Ruth Erickson from the Friends of the SBC Library.

Tickets are $30. Guests can bring a new or gently used item for the white elephant silent auction in exchange for a free raffle ticket. The event will include tea, sandwiches, scones, champagne, entertainment, raffle prizes and a silent auction, said Erickson, noting that the event is different than other fundraisers locally.

“It’s just a little bit different from most of the others because it’s a tea,” she said. “Nobody else has a tea as far as I know.”

Erickson was busy this week helping to put together donated baskets with items from local businesses. She mentioned that attendees get an environmentally friendly bag from Integrated Waste Management and a little tea pot at their seats.

Joan Sattler is another organizer behind the event. She is with both organizations, but stressed it is important to celebrate women’s history. She has been doing research on the club dating back to around 1913, she said.

“We’re actually celebrating both the history of the library and the history of the Women’s Club,” Sattler said.
