Hollister resident
Michael R. Schaefer died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002 at his home in Hollister. He was 49.

Mr. Schaefer moved to Hollister three years ago, and he and his wife were married in Hollister on Aug. 24, 2001. He had previoiusly lived in Las Vegas, where he worked for Betson Co., a distributor of coin-operated games and machines. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971-73.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Lewis of Hollister; his father, William Joe Schaefer of Tustin; his brother, Carl Schaefer of Tustin; his sister, Nancy Schaefer of Tustin; his stepchildren, Matthew Lewis and Laura Lee Ward, both of Hollister, and Michelle Cantrell of Merced; and four grandchildren.

Committal with military rites will be on Monday, Nov. 4 at 1:30 p.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella. Arrangements and cremation are through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
