Letter: Remember the lessons of the pandemic

Re: California & Dan Walters 1/21 & 1/28/ 22 It seems that Dan Walters answers his own question. The voters have spoken. I think that is what democracy is about! Thinking that the voters may not want undocumented workers to benefit from free healthcare, this writer...

Letter: City should not pay for Boy Scouts’ flags

Regarding the Boy Scout flags that were stolen during the rally, Councilwoman Valdivia was right when she redirected their request elsewhere for assistance. The taxpayers should not be paying for this. However, the fact that nobody knows what to do with this small claim is somewhat disconcerting. The claim amount is really peanuts in the scheme of things. It should not even be an issue. Given the magnitude of the Biker Rally it is inevitable that more, and most likely larger, claims will follow in the years to come. For now it seems like Tyson, Howe, Velazquez, Corbin and friends could find the resources to reimburse the Scouts their $906 to replace the stolen flags. After that, the Rally Committee needs to have a process for handling these types of things and make that process known to the public. Hopefully the city and county are insulated against future liability and lawsuits arising from this event. I'm sure they did their homework.

Ferguson, CEO of ACT.

Letter: Lots to love in this great hometown

I love Hollister. It’s a great place to live. We have open space, a historic downtown, not far from beaches, wonderful wine trails, caring community organizations, wonderful churches, schools with hardworking teachers, a great police department. I could go on and on.

Guest View: Spring into immunity

With the coming of summer, families of sixth-graders are looking forward to a fun-filled season that also includes the mandatory tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccination for seventh-grade entry. This middle-school rite of passage is frequently left to the precious last days of summer vacation. This quirk of human nature causes a late-summer “Tdap tsunami” at local pharmacies, healthcare providers’ offices, and here at Public Health Services.
