A San Francisco man was arrested Tuesday and is suspected of intentionally ramming another vehicle in Hollister while driving a stolen car and causing minor injuries to its passenger.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to a lookout for the vehicle, which officers believe intentionally collided with another vehicle, after receiving a report of reckless driving toward Meridian Street, according to a press release from the CHP, which later learned the car was stolen.

Officers located the vehicle – the driver was not there at the time – near Meridian and Barnes Lane and inside found shotgun shells. They set a perimeter around the vehicle, but later found the suspect near Barnes Lane hiding in the bushes, according to the CHP.

They reported he did not obey their verbal commands, became belligerent and started advancing toward the officers, prompting use of a TASER on the suspect. The suspect, a 27-year-old man from San Francisco, was arrested and booked into the San Benito County Jail.

Recommended charges include felony driving while under the influence, assault with a deadly weapon and driving without a license.

The injured passenger in the other vehicle that was rammed, meanwhile, was taken to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital for treatment.
