Indian summer has arrived with a bang down here in South County. It’s been hot and muggy the past few days. We did have a little bit of rain on Sunday evening, just enough to dampen the roads a little and worry a lot of grape growers.

Cynnie O’Connor hosted a french toast breakfast last Thursday morning at Bitterwater Tully School. Some of those enjoying breakfast with the students included: Lynette Hurley, Kuulei Flores, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini, Ruth Records and Roberta Oswald, Bill and Robin Rist and three members of the Bear Valley CDF. They gave the students a brief fire safety lesson before letting them check out the fire engine and all the equipment. Thanks to Cynnie for a great breakfast and to the Bear Valley CDF for making it an extra special day as well.

We will be having a flu shot clinic at the Bitterwater Tully School in early October. I will publish the date as soon as it is confirmed. We had a very successful flu shot clinic last year so we decided to continue on with it again.

Congratulations goes out to Nessen Schmidt, Jr and Jessica Brooks who were married last Saturday in Atascadero. The wedding was held outside and the weather couldn’t have been any better. Jessica was a beautiful bride and Ness a very handsome groom. Tatum Hurley was the flower girl and Wade Garza was the ring bearer.

Wyatt Bourdet and Carlos Castillo hosted another very successful ranch rodeo at the Silver Creek Ranch last weekend. South County was represented well there and were very successful. Some of those participating included: Vern and Jo Ann Scattini, Casey Sabin, Hec and Kasey Hurley, The Sans Family, Jessika Willoughby, Cynnie O’Connor, Wyatt and Lacey Bourdet, Kent and Haley Hirdes, John Rianda and Kyla Prunty, Andy Barrington, the Coefield Family, The Prewett Family, Nick Taliaferro, Joey Jansen, Bret Bonfantini, Audra Bourdet and Scott Naccarato, just to name a few. Congratulations to Wyatt and Lacey for being named All-around Cowboy and All Around Cowgirl for the weekend long event, and to Wyatt for his horse earning the Top Ranch Horse award as well. Vern Scattini and Dick Coefield won the Over 50 Calf Branding while Jo Ann and I won the ladies calf branding. Todd, Casey Sabin, JW Brewen and Vern Scattini won the Ranch Doctoring event while Todd, Wyatt, Kent Hirdes and Hec Hurley won the match branding. Taylor Jo Hurley and Brody Sans won the junior calf branding. Junior Reed hand made some beautiful beds for the All-around winners and the top ranch horse award. Wyatt and Lacey won both awards and will be able to furnish their home very nicely with all their awards. Event winners were each awarded silver mugs from the 19th Hole along with a gift certificate to the restaurant. It was another successful event held at the Silver Creek Ranch and we’re already looking towards the next one.

Buck season ends this weekend and I still haven’t heard of too many buck stories yet. If you got a big one this season you’d like to brag about, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with your news.
