Editor,

In regard to the proposed Tres Pinos hotel, we would like to make clear some of the reasons why we think the hotel is ill-conceived for that location. The property in question is zoned residential. Single-family homes and a bike path, where the children walk to school, encircle it. Business growth belongs in the commercial center of town.

The Tres Pinos Water District does not currently have the resources to support the hotel project. Tres Pinos Water District states that it would cost upwards of $1 million to upgrade the water and sewer system. The developer feels that his offering of $100,000 should take care of the problem. One million dollars minus $100,000 equals $900,000 left for the Tres Pinos residents to pay. Divided up between the 110 water connections, we would have to each pay $8,181 to support a hotel that the residents don’t want anyway.

The location chosen by the developer is at an already dangerous, irregular five-way intersection. A hotel built in this little residential area would add further traffic hazards, endangering the grade school children walking or riding their bikes to school through this intersection and along the bike path which borders the proposed hotel location.

We have chosen to raise our four children in this quiet country town, and we care deeply about Tres Pinos and its future. A hotel proposal with zoning, water, sewer, and traffic problems for this residential location is a bad idea.
