Polls in San Benito County are “slow” to this point, with voting until 8 p.m. today and several key races on the local ballot.

Head elections official Joe Paul Gonzalez, the clerk/auditor/recorder, noted how it has been relatively quiet at the local polls. Gonzalez last week predicted a turnout of around 30 percent, and said late this morning the elections office should have a better idea on vote-by-mail turnout figures – an indication of overall turnout – by mid-afternoon.

There should not be any major issues with having enough ballots this election.

“It’s been slow,” said Gonzalez, elections head since 2006. “This has been my slowest election.”
