In a recent editorial a point was made that the city and county should focus on maintaining the infrastructure that we have now and not spend resources on building new infrastructure such as the River Park Project. While I agree that we shouldn’t be building things that we can’t afford to maintain, I think it is critical that we not abandon the goals of improving our community and to find ways to increase city and county revenues so that we can make improvements to parks, streets, schools and other public facilities.
How is it that other communities such as Morgan Hill are able to make so many improvements to their community, while we have so little? And how will we attract new residents and business to the area when we have so little to offer in comparison to other communities?
We should not give up on improving our city but rather focus on projects that improve the quality of life in the area and help promote business, tourism, and development, so that we can have the revenues needed to maintain what we have and be proud of where we live. Other communities are managing to continue to improve their facilities and if we don’t, we will only fall further and further behind.
