The Hollister City Council on Monday is scheduled to consider options for a prospective ballot question asking voters to extend the Measure T sales tax approved in November 2007.
Council members at the 6:30 p.m. meeting at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St., are expected to give direction to staff officials regarding the expiring Measure T sales tax, according to the meeting agenda.Â
The agenda lists three questions for council members to consider that include:
– Does the council want to place the continuation of the sales tax on the November ballot?
– If so, at what rate? The current sales tax is 1 percent.
– If so, for five years, 10 years, somewhere between or no sunset?
If the council places a question on the ballot, members would consider an official resolution May 21.
If voters deny a sales tax or it expires in the spring of 2013, the city is looking at a $3 million “austerity plan” to balance the budget.
