Around the Water Cooler

Julie Morris: “Buying U.S.-made uniforms would send a positive message that we support local economies that, in turn, support thriving communities. If the Committee wants to show that financial gain is not the only thing we should be managing for – that social and environmental gains also have value – then we’ll turn to our own manufacturers. That said, I would not make it a requirement but hope the Committee has the wisdom to see the bigger picture.”

Bill Mifsud: “Yes, by all means. I am sure there are many companies in the U.S. garment industry suffering economic hardships. At the opening ceremonies the company producing the line would get immediate exposure and possibly more business but a foreign company making US Olympic clothing does not have me seeing red, white and blue.”

Nants Foley: “The Olympics are all about patriotism. Our team should be decked out in American made uniforms! Hooray for the red, white and blue. Let’s hope everyone stays safe throughout the competition.”

Jim West: “I love the idea of buying US made, but I also love the idea of selling heavy equipment from Caterpillar and airplanes from Bowing to overseas companies. My Ford truck contains a long list of components manufactured outside the US. I love German beer and Mexican food but don’t really care where the US Olympic uniforms come from.”

Louise Ledesma: “Yes, since the Olympic teams represent the US, their uniforms should be made here. On the other hand, when you go shopping for clothes, it is very difficult to find anything made in the USA.”

Ruth Erickson: “Yes! Due to the controversy and negative press of the 2012 Summer Olympic clothing being made in China, there’s already a manufacturer who has said they could make the 2014 Winter Olympic uniforms here in the USA. We have expert manufacturers in this country who would be honored to have the opportunity to have their skills showcased in this country and to the world. What a coup for the local economy of the manufacturers chosen to make the apparrel. Let’s put the US back in the USA.”
