Getting involved in the sales tax campaign was not an easy decision for me.  I knew it would be met with resistance, in these hard times, but still I felt I needed to do something to maintain at least the same level of service.  Honestly, for me it was just about not losing any more services; most notably public safety.  I wanted to at least ask the residents for another five years of an existing tax because I thought it would be good for us as a community.  I wanted to give you the choice to choose our path.  I felt like it wouldn’t be too much to ask the voters to continue Measure T because there was so much more to be lost than just that one penny spent on the dollar that we have already been paying.

For those of you that may be on the fence please consider what I am saying. I would like to state:  At some point we need to move on in a more positive direction.  It seems to me that we are headed in the right direction with many uplifting proposals from our mayoral candidates and some existing council members.  I want the chance for those proposals to come to fruition and I believe it will take the continuation of this one percent tax to realize some of those proposals; however  my main focus is maintaining our existing level of services.  In light of losing RDA monies I felt we needed, more than ever, to retain this local funding.

I ask you to join me and support the continuation of the sales tax by voting Yes on E.  I really feel like it’s the right way for now and hope that you agree that it’s for the betterment of all of our lives here in our hometown, Hollister.

Whatever the outcome is I will receive your message and respect it.  I will continue to support my city through volunteerism.  In closing I do want to thank our four mayoral candidates for getting involved and running for local office.  Thank you for taking time out of your busy lives to read my message.  Please remember to vote on November 6th.
