The Hollister City Council will have one piece of business to handle Monday before the new mayor and two incumbent members are sworn in.
Council members at their meeting Monday are set to consider approving the final map for a 30-lot, low-income housing subdivision known as Hillview II. It is located at Aquirre Road between Graf and Buena Vista roads.
Hillview II is the second of two self-help, or sweat equity, projects organized by South County Housing in that neighborhood of the west side. The first Hillview subdivision, which neighbors the second project, included 25 homes and was finished in the fall of 2011.
In July and again in September of this year, the nonprofit organization reported it had not gained a sufficient number of applicants for the homes – while soliciting interested residents from San Benito County, Gilroy and Morgan Hill to take part.
Once the subdivision map is resolved, Councilman Doug Emerson will step down from his seat while Mayor-Elect Ignacio Velazquez will be sworn in for his two-year term.
Incumbent council members Ray Friend and Victor Gomez will be sworn in for their respective four-year terms, and Velazquez will award a plaque to Emerson for his eight years on the council.
The council meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St.
