Aris Helicopters has agreed to a lease with the City of Hollister to operate at the building formerly used by the Gavilan College aviation mechanic program. Aris Helicopters, based in Riverside and San Jose, provides an array of services that include construction support, firefighting, law enforcement, charters and maintenance.
The city council Monday agreed to a monthly lease of $3,800. The company will have its own fuel service, and 20 percent of the rent goes to the fixed-base operator, Gavilan Aviation, a private company unrelated to the college. The city estimates about $45,600 in additional annual revenue from the deal.
Gavilan College for nearly 50 years had used the location at 234 Skylane Drive for its aviation mechanic program. The building space is 10,000 square feet, and there is a fenced yard of about 1,600 feet to the north of the hangar, according to a city staff report.
The lease term is two years starting April 1, while Aris has an option to extend it another three years.
Aris also agreed to the city’s fuel charge – which is 5 cents for each gallon dispensed at the Hollister Municipal Airport.
Some other services Aris provides include aerial construction and heavy lift projects; power pole and utility lines including communications survey and repair; frost control; seismic work; and motion picture support such as aerial cinematography and video production.
