The county board of supervisors Tuesday approved concessions agreed to by members of Service Employees International Union Local 521 representing all county general employees.
Concessions include a two-year moratorium on step increases starting July 1 and 15 days of furloughs in each of the next two years, county Management Analyst Jacki Credico said at the meeting.
Contracts for law enforcement dispatchers, correctional officers, sergeants and juvenile officers will be reduced 2.5 percent because they can’t logistically take furloughs.
Overall, the entire reductions will save the county $1.74 million next year with a total general fund budget of around $37 million.
In approving the new contracts, the board members praised the union for “coming to the table and stepping up to plate.”
“This really means a lot when we are trying to fix the budget,” Supervisor Margie Barrios said.
