Allen graduates from basic training
Pvt. Calvin M. Allen, Jr., 19, of Hollister, graduated from
basic military training at Fort Knox Army Base in Kentucky.
Allen successfully completed an intensive nine-week program that
included training in the military discipline and studies.
Following boot camp, he will stay at Fort Knox for an additional
10 weeks of advanced training to complete his Military Occupation
Specialty
– Cavalry Scout.
He is the son of the Charmain Cavanas Beaston, of Hollister and
Calvin Allen, Sr., of Clarksville, In. His sisters include Desiree
Beaston Guevara, of San Jose, and Davielle Beaston Toothman, of
Imperial Beach. Grandparents include Tony and Ellen Cavanas, of
Oakdale, and Marlene Fernandez, of Hillsboro, Ore.

Ruiz graduates from basic training
Army Pvt. Francisco J. Ruiz has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.
He is the brother of Miguel Ruiz of Hollister. Ruiz is a 2008 graduate of San Benito High School, Hollister.
