One of two projects for the Leadership San Benito Class of 2010 has been a project to organize a backpack giveaway to local boys and girls.

That project culminated successfully at a ceremony Tuesday at Chamberlain Children’s Center, where project participants gave away 75 backpacks, 25 each to the children’s center, the Kinship Center and Emmaus House.

Leadership members conducted a fundraising effort for goods or money to get the backpacks. Several businesses donated to the cause as well, including Target, Java Express, Ridgemark and Earthbound Farms. A Brownie troop also stuffed all the backpacks.
