The local celebration of Mexican Independence Day, which was

Church hosted its annual parade and Kermesse Sept. 12.
The event, which has been held locally for a quarter-century
began with a parade through downtown Hollister, from San Benito
High School on Monterey Street to Sacred Heart Church on Fifth and
College streets. A noontime Mass was followed by food and
entertainment on the grounds of Sacred Heart Parish School.

The local celebration of Mexican Independence Day, which was Sept. 16, was an all-day event as Sacred Heart-St. Benedict’s Church hosted its annual parade and Kermesse Sept. 12.

The event, which has been held locally for a quarter-century began with a parade through downtown Hollister, from San Benito High School on Monterey Street to Sacred Heart Church on Fifth and College streets. A noontime Mass was followed by food and entertainment on the grounds of Sacred Heart Parish School.

This year’s event had particular significance, as it was the 200th anniversary of Mexican Independence Day, when Mexico won its independence from Spanish rule. It also marked the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution of 1910.

Andrew Rodriguez was named king of the Kermesse – the first time a king has been crowned in the event – and Jennifer Torres was named queen.
