Mabie nursing facility offers support
One of the most heart-wrenching and difficult decisions I have
ever had to make was deciding to allow my mother to live in a
long-term care nursing facility. Until now my mother has been a
stubbornly independent individual, but currently requires 24-hour
assistance. My emotional response has been a combination of feeling
a deep sense of guilt and feeling relieved that my mother will
receive the care she needs to be safe.
This journey has also been difficult because I was not prepared
for it. When my mother became extremely ill, it was sudden. I have
had to navigate through the process of figuring out how to make
important medical decisions and take care of her personal
obligations and be supportive of her spiritual and emotional needs.
This has not been easy.
One source of comfort in this process has been that she is a
resident at the Mabie Skilled Nursing Facility-Southside, receiving
care from nurses and other staff. I am pleased that the staff has
been very good at assisting her and ensuring that all her needs are
met. I receive phone calls to inform me of any changes in my
mother’s health and she is monitored regularly. I am thankful to
the Mabie Skilled Nursing Facility staff for that.
My mother is safe and cared for, but it is still not home for
her. So I visit her daily, show her family photos, watch TV with
her and sometimes join her for a meal. Between the efforts of Mabie
Skilled Nursing Facility and the support of my family, my hope is
that we can make my mother’s life as comfortable as possible.
