Erin Glasspool and Alex Triolo improved to 16-0 with another doubles win Tuesday, and the San Benito girls tennis team easily defeated visiting Gilroy 6-1 at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.
The victory for the No. 1 pairing kept Glasspool and Triolo undefeated this year, and helped the Balers up their Tri-County Athletic League mark to 8-3, 10-6 overall.
Glasspool and Triolo, who last week battled back to win a third-set tiebreaker against Salinas’ Casey Watt and Melinda Obusada, earned a much easier straight-set victory on Tuesday. The San Benito duo defeated Gilroy’s Melanie Morelos and Elaina Vasquez 6-2, 6-2.
It was less than one month ago when the No. 1 pairing for the Mustangs forced Glasspool and Triolo’s hand during a dual meet in Gilroy. Morelos and Vasquez lost that Sept. 30 match as well, but by a far closer straight-set margin — 7-5, 7-6.
Tuesday’s results at the No. 1 doubles spot held true at just about every other position on the ladder. Gilroy’s only win came at No. 2 doubles, where Sami Holder and Lindsay Holt beat Olivia Diaz and Anne Tobias 6-0, 6-3. Otherwise, San Benito earned wins in each remaining match.
Stephanie Slavin and Jessica Alva — San Benito’s No. 3 pairing — topped Alejandro Pacheco and Megan Meazell 7-6, 6-4.
In singles, it was a straight sweep for the Balers. At No. 1, Audrey Marshall, who has replaced an injured Hayley Barker in the top spot, defeated Jennifer Kwong 6-3, 6-3; Kristina Slavich beat Satthea Khay 6-0, 6-0; Kelsey Slavich upended Joann Lo 6-2, 6-1; and at No. 4 singles, Alex Garcia won 6-1, 6-2 over Amiti Munshi.
San Benito has just one match remaining in the regular season. The team will meet Notre Dame on Thursday at Hartnell College in Salinas at 4 p.m., before preparing for the TCAL Tournament next Monday and Tuesday.
