A 2002 San Benito High School graduate recently joined the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee, which is coordinating military support for the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama on Jan. 20.

Sgt. Yesenia Robles, daughter of Maria Pilar Juarez in San Juan Bautista, is part of the joint service committee charged with coordinating military support for the inuaugural period, according to a press release from the 2009 Armed Forces Inaugural Committee.

Robles is assigned to the logistics directorate as a light transportation driver, the statement reads. She will be responsible for driving sedans and vans, completing operator checks and services of assigned vehicles, along with providing dedicated transportation support for the presidential inaugural, according to the statement.

The organization overseeing these duties includes members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. They have taken part in such security since 1789, when U.S. Army, local militia units and Revolutionary War veterans escorted George Washington to his first inauguration ceremony in New York City, according to the release.

The statement reads that the participation in this traditional event “demonstrates our military’s support to the nation’s newly elected commander in chief.”
