Two suspected participants in Thursday’s fight at San Benito High School have been arrested, and sheriff’s deputies also arrested a third student on suspicion of intimidation and interfering with a police investigation in connection with that confrontation, Lt. Roy Iler said.
Iler said a couple of witnesses to the fight said another student had told them not to talk to the police regarding the fight.
“That student was arrested and taken to juvenile hall.”
The two known participants in the fight were questioned and also have been booked into juvenile hall.
The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation but has not determined the fight’s cause, said Iler, who did not have the arrested students’ ages available.
“It was basically a disagreement fight,” Iler said.
He said he was unsure if it was gang related but he would not rule it out as a possibility.
The fight happened sometime around 8:30 a.m. at the high school, and at least two male students were involved. Iler said that the parties involved were all in their sophomore or junior years of high school. The sheriff’s office is still trying to find a possible third party who may have been involved, Iler said.
The victim was assaulted and fell unconscious, authorities reported. Responders concluded his injury was serious enough to have him airlifted to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. He was released shortly after his arrival and brought back to Hollister with his parents. Upon getting back to Hollister, the victim gave his statement to the sheriff’s office.
