The Arizona-based company still intends to maintain ownership of some property it owns where DMB planned to build the development. If supervisors had approved it, the 6,800-unit development proposal would have gone before voters.

The meetings will give a general description of the project for
both the public and the government agencies involved. Once the
presentation about the project ends, the public can make their
comments.

El Rancho San Benito is set to hold two public scoping meetings for all residents interested in voicing concerns about the project or anything related on Wednesday and Thursday.

The meetings are intended to foster discussion on the notice of preparation of the El Rancho San Benito draft environmental impact report, said Mike Roberts, vice president of corporate entitlements with DMB.

The development proposal calls for a community of 6,800 units just south of the Santa Clara County line along Highway 25.

“What notice of preparation does is to give notice to the public, including all the state and local agencies, that the county is preparing an EIR for this project,” he said.

The first of the two similar meetings will take place on 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Veterans Memorial Building. The second meeting is set for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at at San Juan Elementary School.

The meetings will give a general description of the project for both the public and the government agencies involved, he said. Once the presentation about the project ends, the public can make their comments.

“Anyone from the community can come in and address any concerns at all,” Roberts said. “If the public says to look at this, the county will address it in their environmental impact report.”

If someone cannot make either meeting but still would like to make a comment or voice a concern over the project, he or she will have until Feb. 2 when the public comment period ends.

If you would like more information on these meetings, call DMB by phone at 635-5910 or go to its Web site at www.elranchosanbenito.com.
