The San Benito County Board of Supervisors today swore in its newest member, Margie Barrios, while also swearing in Supervisors Anthony Botelho and Jaime De La Cruz for their second respective terms.
Barrios took over the seat of former Supervisor Don Marcus in District 1, with Botelho in District 2 and De La Cruz in District 5.
Barrios, elected to the District 1 seat in June, was sworn in along with her brother, Mike Sanchez, by Mary Lou Andrade – also Barrios’ sister and the treasurer and tax collector for San Benito County.
Sanchez is succeeding Tim Foley, who recently retired as county schools superintendent after serving the San Benito County Office of Education since his appointment in 1996.
Barrios shared her feelings about being sworn in with her family.
“I feel very honored and particularly because my brother Mike, who is now the county superintendent, and my sister, who happens to be the treasurer (were there), and all three of us were able to do this together as a family – it was very, very special. I’m excited about taking on the job. I’m excited about the position. I’m excited about serving. It’s a historical moment for me personally, for my family, and hopefully for our county,” Barrios said.
Both Botelho and De La Cruz were elected to their seats in 2004, and this begins their second terms as supervisors.
