A power outage caused this afternoon when a helium balloon hit a power line affected 5,200 customers in the Hollister area for nearly 40 minutes.
Pacific Gas & Electric first heard reports of the outage at 12:52 p.m. and had power restored at 1:29 p.m. for all but five of the affected customers, said Jennifer Zerwer, a PG&E spokeswoman.
The remaining five customers should expect their power restored by 3:30 p.m., she said.
Zerwer explained that a “metallic balloon” – or helium party balloon – somehow interrupted a power line and caused the outage.
