Lindsay works on her recordings
For those of you who don’t know, I have been striving to be a
singing sensation for quite some time now. I go to a lot of
auditions and competitions. In January of last year, I went to a
competition where I got to sing in front of 30-plus recording
agents and record labels. There I met a man named Manny from
Upscale Records. We talked for only a brief moment but apparently
he thought I was quite good.

For those of you who don’t know, I have been striving to be a singing sensation for quite some time now. I go to a lot of auditions and competitions. In January of last year, I went to a competition where I got to sing in front of 30-plus recording agents and record labels. There I met a man named Manny from Upscale Records. We talked for only a brief moment but apparently he thought I was quite good.

In September, I was beginning to lose all hope when I got a call from my mother saying she was on the phone with a man named Kevin, who claimed to be Manny’s assistant. He explained that at around this time, Manny likes to take “nobodies” and pursue turning them into “somebodies.” I looked them up to find that they were real, and that this was no scam. They wanted to record a demo and personally represent me when I go back to that same competition this month. I was quickly persuaded and signed my life away on their contract in November.

In December, my mother and I went to Costa Mesa to start my recording journey. It took us what seemed like forever to find what looked like a little hole in the wall. It was a very compact studio which would not be good for those who are claustrophobic. I met a man named Greg, who was going to be there the three days I was there to help me learn the songs and record me and what not. I also met the man who became a regular house-hold name to my family, Kevin. Manny was nowhere to be found. He was too busy to say hello to his new protege.

The songs seemed a little bit like what you would hear on the Disney Channel. No offense to Disney whatsoever. But the songs were catchy and Greg was impressed by how fast I learned the songs. In two hours, I successfully recorded a whole song with background vocals and harmonies. There were a total of three songs and even though I was a tad bit under the weather, they sound really good.

As I was in that studio, I realized that it felt like home, as lame and emotional as that sounds. Its something I like to do because it makes me happy. Hopefully I can take it all the way home! 2008 will be a good year.
