Carl Daniel Hughes, 40, loving father, devoted husband, and respected community leader passed away Monday, January 28, 2008. Carl leaves behind a grieving wife, Linda Fedalizo-Hughes; son, KyVon Luis Fedalizo Hughes; and daughter, Myka Zhane Fedalizo Hughes. He is also survived by his father, Arthur Hughes; mother, Helen Hughes; three older brothers: Ted Hughes, Eugene Hughes, and Kenneth Hughes; and older sister Mona Thompson. Carl will be truly missed by his extended family and wide circle of friends whose lives he touched.
Carl was born in San Diego, California, on July 14, 1967, the son of a Navy man; his family traveled a lot while Carl was growing up, however most of his youth was spent in San Diego, where he attended elementary school. The family then moved to Oxnard, California, where he attended Junior High and High School. Throughout his youth, Carl was heavily involved in sports particularly football and baseball. Carl was ultimately recruited to play football at Fresno State University where he met his loving wife, Linda. Shortly after graduation, they were married and moved to San Martin, California, Linda’s home town. He fast became a pillar of the community as husband, father, friend, coach, mentor, and minister. Carl played a visible role in his children’s education and activities; he was involved heavily with his children’s school and was a passionate coach for his son KyVon’s football and baseball teams as well as his daughter Myka’s softball teams. As an active patron of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Morgan Hill, Carl was on the parish council, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a teacher and teen minister/mentor, as well as a couples’ minister to many preparing for marriage.
Vigil will be Friday, February 1, 2008 7:00 P.M. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church
17400 Peak Ave., Morgan Hill, CA 95037. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Church.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, February 2, 2008, 12:00 Noon at the Church.
Burial to follow the mass at Mount Hope Cemetery on Spring Avenue in Morgan Hill. Reception following burial, hosted by Knights of Columbus at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church – Parish Center.
