Yoshiko Clara Hoshida, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Mountain View, California, surrounded by her family on February 8, 2008.
Clara is survived by her ever-loyal husband of fifty nine years, Frank Hoshida, as well as her children Michael & Dia Hoshida (Gilroy), Chyerl Hoshida & David Dunham (Menlo Park), her grandchildren, Stephen, Emily, Thomas, Alan, William Hoshida, Nikki Dunham-Hoshida, and recently born great granddaughter Caitlyn Lane Hoshida. She was a proud and steadfast supporter of her grandchildren and their various activities & events. Clara will be missed by her sisters, Virginia Asada, Gloria Kubota, Rosie Yoshida, Lillian DiGirolamo and her beloved nieces and nephews. Her parents, Tsuneo and Saye Kasano, and her brothers, David and John Kasano, predeceased her.
Clara fondly referred to herself as “Clara of Santa Clara.” She was born in Santa Clara, California and attended public school throughout her education, graduating from Santa Clara High School in 1939. During WWII, she and her family were interned in the Heart Mountain Internment Camp in Wyoming.
Clara was an accomplished seamstress and also worked at home doing alterations. She applied her skill as a reweaver, operating her own reweaving shop in Palo Alto. For twenty five years during the 1970’s and 80’s, Clara and Frank ran Bob’s Drive-In Cleaners in Mountain View.
Clara was active in the Mountain View Buddhist Temple’s Fujinkai, along with Frank’s visually impaired social circle. Clara’s spunky and outgoing personality fostered friendships with a variety of people. Her vivacious and bubbly persona will be missed by all her friends and family.
Services will be held at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple, 575 North Shoreline Blvd, Mountain View, Wednesday, February 13, at 11:00 am.
