The San Benito County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing a
case regarding a groom, who police say assaulted the wedding’s
caterer after haggling over the price of his services. According to
police, the man punched the caterer in the face, causing a large
bruise after the wedding, which took place June 3 on the 800 block
of Fifth Street. No arrests have been made.
Battery

Robbery

A 35-year-old Hollister woman was arrested on May 31 after police suspect that she – along with her teenage daughter – stole a pair of pants from a business in the 700 block of San Benito Street and assaulted the store’s owner. According to police spokeswoman Rosie Betanio, the woman and her daughter had entered the store and attempted to steal the pants when the store’s owner grabbed the mother before she could leave with the merchandise. The daughter is then reported to have punched the owner in the face before the two fled in a vehicle. A citizen observed the two suspects driving away and followed them, taking the license plate of the car and phoning police. Officers then pulled over the car and arrested the mother before booking her into San Benito County Jail. The daughter escaped and is being sought by police.

Child cruelty

A 40-year-old mother was arrested and booked into jail May 31 after police say she slapped her 15-year-old daughter on the face. The daughter complained of pain and redness on her face but was not taken to the hospital after the suspected assault.

Burglary

A burglary was reported in the 800 block of Fifth Street on June 3 when a man called police and said burglars had broken into his home when he left for lunch. The man said he left his back door open for an hour and that the burglars took a computer and two cameras and ransacked his bedroom. Police have no suspects.

Burglary was reported May 30 when a police officer saw a man walking away from a car that had been burglarized near the front of a residence in the 600 block of Talbot Drive. According to a police report, the officer saw a white male, possibly a transient, walking hastily away from a vehicle later reported to have been missing loose change. Police didn’t locate the man, and the case has been closed with no suspects.
