Sun safety is a hot topic
Dear Lindsay,
My boyfriend never wears sunscreen and he always gets sunburned.
I worry about it, but he just doesn’t think it is important. What
can I do to get him to wear it?
-Burnt-up Boyfriend
Dear Burnt-up Boyfriend,
This past week, a major heat wave hit. When it’s hot like that,
many like to hit up the beach or swim. Being in the sun for too
long can cause serious health issues. Sun exposure is the number
one cause of skin cancer. Your boyfriend probably hasn’t done much
research on it. If mysterious moles or other skin markings appear,
he should see a doctor. These are the signs of skin cancer. Let
your boyfriend know the dangers and look up facts online together.
A little bit of sunscreen never killed anyone; just saved them.

Dear Lindsay,

What can I do to keep cool when it gets to be more than 100 degrees outside?

-Beat the Heat

Dear Beat the Heat,

Even though the heat wave has died down, it is still going to be a long, hot summer. Keeping cool can be tricky for those who don’t have air conditioning or access to a swimming pool. The heat can cause heat strokes or other health issues due to dehydration. Drinking plenty of water is the best thing to do. It can keep you cool both on the inside and out. Try to stay indoors if you feel it is too hot. Keep your pets inside as well and make sure they have plenty of drinking water.

Dear Lindsay,

My friend and I like going out for lunch together. The last few times we’ve gone, I’ve noticed that she hardly touches her food. Should I be worried?

-Loss of Appetite

Dear Loss of Appetite,

Sadly, I get a lot of questions like this. If it’s something you notice continuously, then it’s a definite problem. Confront her about it. Even if she doesn’t have an appetite, she needs to make sure she eats something. Society today can make girls feel like they are too overweight and feel the need to go to extreme levels, often resulting in eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia. Talk to her, as well as her family, about your concerns and about how she can get help.

Dear Lindsay,

Whenever I send out an invite to my friends when I have a party or barbecue, hardly any of them RSVP. It makes it super hard to plan things. What can I do to let them know how much it stresses me out when I don’t know how many people are attending?

-Annoyed Party Planner

Dear Annoyed Party Planner,

The best thing to do is to tell them straight up. Ask them if they are going or not. If they still refuse to RSVP, then the next time you plan a party, don’t invite them. If they can’t appreciate the hard work it takes to plan a party, then they shouldn’t be invited at all.You deserve nothing but respect when planning your party.
