Army Pvt. Kyle E. Sexton has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training.

During the nine weeks of basic combat training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid skills, and Army history, core values and traditions.

Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experienced use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

The Advanced Individual Training course is designed to train infantry soldiers to perform reconnaissance operations; employ, fire and recover anti-personnel and anti-tank mines; locate and neutralize land mines and operate target and sight equipment; operate and maintain communications equipment and radio networks; construct field firing aids for infantry weapons; and perform infantry combat exercises and dismounted battle drills, which includes survival procedures in a nuclear, biological or chemical contaminated area.

Sexton is the son of Eddie D. and Pamela N. Sexton of Hollister.

Hollister resident becomes Airman

Airman Ryan R. Lemmerman has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Tex. The training consists of basic physical and mental training needed to serve in the United States Air Force.

During the six-and-a-half week training, the airman received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons employment, tactics, military courtesy, physical fitness, values and history of the Air Force, among other skills. Lemmerman passed his physical fitness tests at the Thunderbolt level, the highest level awarded in these particular tests.

He is now enrolled in technical school at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Tex., where he will learn the advanced skills needed by the Air Force. Following the 17-week course, he will transfer to Luke Air Force Base seven miles outside Glendale, Ariz.

Lemmerman is the son of Laurie Lemmerman-Castaneda and the brother of Daniel Lemmerman and Briana and Kaelie Castaneda of Hollister.
