The movie in which local actor Cesar Flores played a supporting role – “August Evening” – has had an “excellent response,” he told the Free Lance today.
In its eighth week, the Spanish-language film showing in limited locations has earned 10 awards at various film festivals and so far had grossed about $50,000 at the box office through the most recent weekend.
The movie, according to its Web site, “follows an aging undocumented farm worker named Jaime and his young, widowed daughter-in-law, Lupe, as their lives are thrown into upheaval.”
Flores, a veteran of San Juan Bautista’s El Teatro Campesino and many other acting projects, played a character named “Salazar” who’s a friend of the main character. He noted how he has a significant role in three major scenes.
“It’s on the way,” said Flores of the film that played in Salinas for two weeks, one week longer than the original plan.
It’s written and directed by Chris Eska, who doesn’t speak Spanish and already has won accolades for a Japanese film – he doesn’t speak Japanese, either – called “Doki-Doki,” Flores pointed out.
