Eagles have just four varsity wrestlers as ‘Balers win in
rout
Hollister – San Benito resumed Tri-County Athletic League wrestling action Wednesday – sort of.
The Haybalers, who won the Silicon Valley Challenge Cup in San Jose over the weekend, hosted Alvarez in their first league dual meet since Dec. 13, but the undermanned Eagles provided little competition.
With only 11 wrestlers total and four at the varsity level, Alvarez was quickly wiped out by San Benito 73-5.
The ‘Balers were victorious in the only four matches that were contested.
Morris Stevens earned a win by decision at 119 pounds, Jesus Segura pinned his opponent at 130, Josh Ramirez won by decision at 152 and Fernando Lucatero won by technical fall at 160.
“If I knew they only had 11, I would’ve held a practice tonight,” San Benito coach Matt Olejnik said. “Now we missed out on a practice day.
“It’s tough for them. They’ve got some tough kids but only 11 of them,” Olejnik added. “It does us no good.”
The ‘Balers will be back in acton Saturday in the Jim Root Tournament in Saratoga.
