Thanks to Emergency Workers
Editor,
Thanks to health care workers. On the afternoon of June 12, because of excessive bleeding we called 911. The emergency personnel arrived very shortly and rushed Carl to the Hazel Hawkins Hospital emergency room. We would like to thank those firemen, ambulance personnel and emergency room doctors and nurses for their excellent care. A special thank you to Dr. Martinez for her medical knowledge and superior skills. We’re forever grateful.

Cartoon of Al Gore with Air Guitar Showed Bad Taste
Editor,
Cartoons are supposed to be interesting and funny. I saw nothing funny about the crude and demeaning cartoon in the Free Lance July 11 depicting Al Gore with a hot-air guitar playing about global warming. Very few intelligent people think global warming is hot air, and, furthermore, Al Gore is highly respected for his scientific knowledge and devotion to our planet. I hope in the future your paper will not degrade respectable people with crude and disgusting cartoons. Our country would certainly be in a better place if Al Gore, who won the popular vote, was our president now, but I understand why he is reluctant to get into another presidential race. His value to the world, perhaps, is better served by his continuing to fight to save our planet. Our unfortunate presidential loss may be the world’s environmental gain.

Rally’s Raunchy Nature Missed
Editor,
I waited before writing because I wanted to see your coverage of the motorcycle rally in Tuesday’s edition of the Free Lance. What I thought was totally brushed over was the decidedly raunchy nature of what was being sold at the rally and how it was being sold. I do not have kids that are teenagers but if I did, there is no way I would want them in that environment. People say we need to have the rally because “it is part of history.” I grew up an hour away from here and I never once heard of the 1947 “motorcycle invasion” in Hollister. I understand some of the merchants and bar owners benefit from the rally and I don’t begrudge them that. But I think we should spend our time, energy and money on something that would benefit more of the local people and families and not a bunch of people from out of town who come to buy and sell things. The rally just doesn’t seem to me to add anything positive or uplifting to our town.
